"Some Good, Some Bad - Over all OK, good for the price" 2009-07-05
By Greg Davis (San Jose, CA USA)
Pros:
1. Good price
2. Easy to put together and install
3. Fits a variety of tire sizes (we have DH & XC Mountain Bikes).
4. Looks good in the truck (My 16 yr. old likes it)
[BTW I'm using it in a Med. size Nissan Frontier Truck]
5. Light weight.
6. You don't have to remove any wheels!
Cons:
1. Difficult to get it to fit securely to the truck bed side walls. It wants to slip around after bouncing down the road only a short ways. We had to cut a wood block to fit on one side of the truck bed to make up for extra space so that the rack bolts had something to mount against. Not a big problem, but it is definitely not that stable.
2. On short bed trucks like ours (2007 Nissan Frontier)you have to load the bikes with the rear tire in the rack and turn the front tire sideways so that you can close the tailgait, otherwise it won't fit. Not a big deal, except for the fact that if you are not careful to adjust the tire stop on the rack it is easy to back the tire all the way in and wegde the vertical tire supports between the break disc and the rim. In that position it is very easy to bend or break the disc.
We've used the rack on a couple of trips now, holding 3 and 4 mountain bikes. Overall we are satisfied. I would recommend the rack as a worthy purchase for a truck bed rack.
"Good idea" 2009-06-26
By M. L. Stafford (Michigan)
This carrier is easy to assemble and fits well into my 2009 Silverado short-box. The hardware is good quality. My only small reservation is the way the wheel of the bike is held in place. I would like to see a little more positive way of holding the wheel. I like the fact that you can take the carrier out of the truck and use it in the campground.
"Good product" 2009-04-13
By Dale Boardman
Great product. Fits in well and is solid. Can hold 4 bikes quickly and without fuss. You need a tie down strap across them to keep them upright, as you would expect, but one will do across them all, looped around the frame or steering stem or each.
No worries. The manufacturer was really helpful in finding one for me too, and directed me here.
"Worth the money!" 2008-08-28
By Just Lance (Michigan)
This bike rack is a great buy for the money. It fits into full size as well as smaller trucks. Mine is a Tacoma and it fits perfectly. I do have to say that the directions for assembly are terrible but looking at the picture on the box and a little trial and error are all you really need. Be sure none of the pieces are still stuck together from the finish coating as they won't slide to adjust if you don't and this will make assembly very difficult.
I recommend using something to help hold the bikes in place during use as the simple device that holds the top of the tire is not enough to hold adult size bikes in place while driving. Mine are a Fuji MTB and a Redline cyclocross and both of them shift in the rack if I don't use straps to hold them. Not a big deal really. I do like that each tire holder is adjustable up and down for different size bikes. My kids bikes fit really well and tend to stay put for the most part unless I corner hard while driving.
The rack is held in place by tension to the side of the truck bed so you need to really get it placed well and centered before you adjust the fit. I have had no trouble with needing to adjust mine once it was set. There is also a heavy cable provided so that you can secure the rack to the truck as well as the bikes to the rack. I bought extra cables so that everything can be locked up together with the cables. It would be easy for someone to take the entire rack from the truck bed if it is not secured with one of these cables. The rack does not attach to the truck directly in any way. I liked that about this rack.
I gave it 4 stars because with just a couple of straps I can load all of my bikes and go to the trails and not need to re-attach tires or anything like that before I head out for a ride. It makes it easy to carry kids bikes which usually don't have quick disconnect front tires that many other truck bed rack require. The cost is very reasonable for what you get. It is all metal and is of decent quality. I recommend this if you want a truck bed rack that you can quickly load and unload a variety of bikes into without needing to remove the front tire.
"wasted my money, this thing is JUNK" 2008-07-03
By Eric J. Stettnisch
Good idea but this thing is JUNK. It does not stay in place very well. The bikes keep trying to fall over thus pulling it away from the truck bed. If you have a full size truck like I do they don't give you an extension rod for the lower front saying it's not needed.

"This is the best Kayak roof rack I have bought" 2009-08-24
By Wilfredo M. Viray (Orange County, CA)
I have tried Blocks, Yakima Racks and now the Thule. Firstly, I love that Thule has a complete package, so that I don't have to figure out which items to mix and match. Secondly, this makes it possible to load a kayak alone with very little effort. I did buy the Thule Mat to help slide the kayak on the roof of my van.
Please keep in mind, as the name implies that this is a KAYAK ROOF RACK, not for bikes, Canoes, or surf boards. So ONLY FOR KAYAKS. This is for the common everyday variety Hard shell plastic Kayaks. Anything else will not work. If you have a Wooden Sea Kayak, this is not for you in my opnion. I don't think the saddle material was designed for it. Wood has a different coefficient of Friction as Plastic.
But for us people with the garden variety, everyday plastic Kayaks like Hobie, Cobra, Pelican or Ocean, this is perfect.
"Back saver" 2009-07-01
By Michael L. Large
I no longer have to heft my 14' kayak onto the roof rack of my Expedition. Now I simply slide it into the cradle. This is a terrific racking system that is well worth the cost.
"Junk, do not buy!" 2009-04-22
By D (Maui)
I bought this item because of the adjustability, I figured being able to change the angle to fit my boat exactly would be a good thing. In theory, sure, but unfortunately Thule decided to make the important parts out of cheap crummy plastic.
I paddle a lot - generally at least a few times a week, and transport my 23lb carbon fiber canoe hull (basically the same shape as a racing kayak). Maybe this item would be acceptable to the weekend warrior who only uses it a few times a year, but then why bother with saddles at all? It wasn't long before I was driving down the road and suddenly my boat started wobbling all over the place. I pulled over to discover that the rack arms had flattened. Fortunately I had some duct tape and extra straps with me so I was able to make it home without losing my boat. I took it apart to see what the problem was and found cheap, soft, PLASTIC teeth that had been stripped (coulda seen that coming, what the heck was Thule THINKING???).
Do not - I repeat DO NOT use these racks. I was very lucky my $3000 canoe wasn't damaged. I purchased these racks to protect my canoe, but they'll do just the opposite. I'm going to stick with padded flat racks from now on.
"Great Product" 2008-11-11
By M. Lynch (VT)
This is a great product. I have 2 17 foot kayaks. One is narrower than the other, these adjust to the size of each one.
Easy to instal on the base rack. If you are using a bunch of different thule racks, one might want to have a separate set for just kayaks. I have mine set in place and I can get the entire rack off the car with the bars and the crossroad towers without having to reajust the settings of the kayak rack. I can put the rack and the boats on the car and have them tied down in 10 minutes.

The product worked as expected and I think it is be best way to transport a kayak on a van.

"Thule is over priced junk" 2009-07-05
By S. works (Baltimore, MD United States)
I bought the whole Thule kit. The load bars are not that strong and the kit itself is very poorly designed and way over priced. Cheap flat hooks and a cheap carrier will work just as well.
"Thule Rack A+++" 2009-04-14
By T. Van (NW Montana)
I have the 400xt Aero Foot, LB65 Square Load Bars, 2119 Fit Kit and locks on my 2007 Toyota Matrix XR (on the car 1 mo after purchase 6/2006) and love it. I was a little taken a back by the price, but you get what you pay for. I wanted something stable, when it is on my car, I don't want it to come off. I didn't want to realize my stuff was gone and come back 100 miles later and find it on the road.
We had one of Thule's racks on our 77 VW Van in the late 70s-80s. We moved from Alaska to WV with that rack on our car. Some place in CO we got stuck in a blizzard and the wind was so strong our car was rocking up on two wheels. The rack and our stuff stayed on strong. I knew when it was time for a rack on my car Thule was the way to go. Sure it's expensive, but you get what you pay for.
"Bars great; picture of product slightly misleading" 2008-08-15
By Eric J. DELONG (Whitehorse, Yukon Canada)
This is a pretty straightforward purchase: two Thule-brand bars of dimension 1.25" x 0.75" -- exactly what I needed to replace my old (ancient!) Terzo-brand bars that finally rusted out and gave way. Only 3 stars are awarded as I found the picture misleading: the end caps are NOT included, I'll have to buy these separately now. Had I known (or read the written description which omits mention of the caps) I would have sprung the extra $5 to get the caps included in my free shipping.

"Load em up!" 2008-07-18

Good crossbars for the roof system. I could have gone a little longer on the bars but there's enough gap on the outside to fit a bike carrier.

"Exactly what we needed..." 2009-07-08
By Rusty P. (Dallas, TX USA)
We bought two of these to mount our bikes in the back of my wife's (extra short bed) truck. I mounted them to a cargo bar that clamps into the truck bed so that they would be mounted securely, but easy to remove when not in use.
I chose this version that doesn't include the locks so that we could pick out our own locks and get two locks that are keyed the same.
These fork mounts work really well. Our first outing with them involved a 430 mile(round trip) road trip with a little mild off-roading in the middle.
Our bikes were always held securely and never once did we think we'd bounce them out of the mounts (even on the trails).
It might take a little practice at getting the tightness of the skewer on the mount just right, even if you are a pro at taking your front wheels on and off, because the skewer on the mount has an offset on one side and seems to have a longer throw than a wheel skewer. The long throw is an advantage though, because once the skewer is open, it will open wide enough to completely release the forks. This makes it less likely that you'll have to make adjustments to the "nut" end of the skewer every time you mount and dismount your forks.
Other users have mentioned that the skewer lever is hard to move to the open position once it's been closed, but I had no issues with mine.
I think it's a skewer tightness issue and it could be that the skewer was clamped down too tightly when it was closed.
As far as quality goes, I'm really happy with how well these things are made (and I'm really picky). They are very durable and appear to be made of materials that will endure prolonged outside abuse, although ours live primarily in the garage.
I'd say that this fork mount is a really good and affordable way to mount a bicycle to the bed of your truck.
"Nice bike rack for the price" 2009-06-22
By Will Mattern (Brandon, MS)
This item works fine. One thing I do not love about it is that you have to have the levers aligned just perfect to be able to put a lock through it. For the price I cant complain.
"Great product. Great Price" 2009-05-03
By Robert L. Deckard
Used two hitch pros on a homemade bike rack that is attached to a hitch hauler. The Delta hitch pros are strong and the locking mechanism works great with any lock. The product worked great for me.

"No Hardware?" 2008-10-27

Great construction, seems to work well but it didn't come with any hardware to attach to my Delta truck rack. Bummer!

"Great bike carrier" 2009-08-21
By Patricia E. Rawlins (Ironton, OH)
Purchased two of these carriers to put on my hitch tray. Photo shows using only one but I thought it'd be better to slide in both wheels. Very easy to install. High quality and strong. Highly recommend.
"Lund carrier" 2009-08-18
By Kevin C. McCurrie
I used the carrier recently to bring our bikes to the Chicago Air Show and I was impressed with the quality and versatility of the carrier. I bought the bike carrier attachment and the rail attachment to get the most out of the carrier and I am very pleased with the Lund products.
"holds my bike" 2008-11-11
By crudslinger (Atlanta)
This was easy to attach, and you still have plenty of room for cargo if you're not carry bikes. It gives a little bit of stability to the bike, but you still need to get some tie downs to strap it down pretty tightly.
"Good product but not a complete solution" 2008-10-03
By Loeb (Seattle, WA)
This attachment does a good job of keeping your bikes separated, but you're still going to need a lot of straps to secure your bikes. I wonder if I really even need this product, but I'd get it again given the choice.
"Three Bikes on your Cargo Carrier" 2006-11-23
By D. Mertig
I purchased the bike carrier for my cargo carrier. It arrived without the bolts (I'll tell you about this later). You have to alternate bikes, front tire - back tire - front tire to get all three on. It's really easy to attach and works great. You will have to purchase straps to secure the bikes to the carrier. The carrier is great but Lund International is not.
Now about the missing bolts. The first time I called Lund International the service rep was very friendly, took my address and phone number and said he would send the missing bolts right away. I called about a month later and the friendly service rep appoligized and said he would send them. I decided to purchase the bolts from the local hardware store instead. I wonder what their warrenty is like if they won't replace missing bolts. I hope this isn't standard business for the Lund Company.
